Adding more fear to peoples security online (and in particular Facebook), Mashable recently reported on a hacker calling himself Kirllos has been offering to sell 1.5 million Facebook IDs.
How much for?
Well they start at $25 per 1000 (for user ids with fewer than 10 friends) and $45 per 1000 ids for users with more than 10 friends. Doing the maths, this means that 1 in 300 Facebook users is having their ID sold.
Currently around 700,000 accounts have been sold, but the threads where they are being sold have all been removed. (hmmm)
So what is exactly for sale? Logins and passwords.
Its usually a good idea to keep changing your password every 3 months or so. Set up some reminders in your calendar and try to keep ahead of these types of infringements - after all if its too late, changing your password could prevent your data being captured.
Ultimately, data you share online is really your responsibility - don't blame Facebook - just be one step ahead for this kind of occurrence.
There are also a bunch of password management tools such as Roboform, PassPack and KeePass.
Remember - the data you are sharing online, has certain levels of protection. How much, and how secure you are is ultimately up to the user.
