Pinterest Close to Overtaking Twitter, Instagram as Well

The fact that Facebook is the biggest social network out there is no surprise to anyone. But the interesting things happen somewhere further down the list of top social networks. In the US at least, Pinterest is catching up to Twitter and is close to becoming
the second biggest social network.

Pinterest took everyone by surprise when it came seemingly out of nowhere and started adding millions and millions of users in just a few months.

But, while people may have gotten used to the idea of Pinterest being big, the site kept on growing; now, according to a survey by Pew, it's used by 15 percent of Americans with internet access, this while Twitter is used by 16 percent.

Facebook, for comparison, is used by 67 percent, exactly how many use social networks in general.

Instagram is not doing so bad itself with 13 percent of those online using it. Still, LinkedIn continues to be the second biggest social network, with 20 percent of Americans online using it.

Perhaps the takeaway in all of this isn't the competition, it's the fact that all of these sites are quite different. Twitter and Pinterest couldn't be more different, Instagram and LinkedIn occupy very different spaces, and so on.
