| UK: HMV To Launch New ‘Social Media Café’ Format | |
HMV is set to open a new social media café, in an attempt to revive its fortunes, terming it a “marked departure” from its standard operations.
The new two-storey outlet will offer a café, Wi-Fi, mobile phone recharging points, and a ‘community blackboard’ allowing people to post messages and flyers. It will also feature a “high profile” technology department, and is planning to dedicate an area for hosting live music performances as well as local exhibitions. The outlet will be located in Cambridge, and will open this Saturday. It will also offer a new click & collect service, and will later host signings by musicians. HMV noted: “As the company continues with the transformation of its retail offer in response to the changing way that people now discover and enjoy entertainment content, HMV is increasingly developing a fully-fledged multi-channel offer across its combined store, online and digital estate”. |
