Google Launches Schemer

Yes, the name Schemer is perhaps a bit off-putting and the soft-launch via Google+ may also make the now invite only beta less immediately appealing. And, of course, there's the question of "Do we need ANOTHER one of these?"
Before deciding explore some details:
  • invite only Web app
  • “Whether it’s exploring a new city, checking out a friend’s movie recommendations, or just finding new activities for your weekends, Schemer lets you discover new things to do, share schemes with friends, and make the most of your day.”
  • launch partners include  Bravo, Zagat, Thrillist, Food Network, Rolling Stone, IGN and Entertainment Weekly
  • users build lists of "schemes" based on input from experts, content providers, friends and then chech them off when they are completed
  • tied into Google+
The media coverage describes it as a direct Foursquare competitor, a recommendation engine, and event service. The connection to Google+ is perhaps the most interesting aspect to the service right now.
The video does not really help detail the vision.
