It looks like no real lessons have been learned as the UK general election looms on how to be effective using social platforms by the big 3 election parties in the UK.
You'd think after so much press coverage, case studies and exposure on "how Obama won" that all of the "big 3" party's would have been all over getting the coverage they needed on social platforms. But they have already failed.
One of the differences is personality. Obama has one. He's not afraid to go onto national television and tell the American public that BP will be fronting the cost of the oil disaster. Could you imagine Gordon Brown doing that?
At the annual White House Correspondents dinner last night Obama was still talking about social as an influencer and jokingly said "But even the mainstream press gives me a hard time, I hear that I'm still a pretty big on Twitter, Facebook...or as Sarah Palin calls it, the Socialized media"
Mainstream press continue to decline as free alternatives continue to increase their exposure. Even blogs such as this continue to get exposure from different people, different views without bias into certain new groups.
Obama said of the news industry difficult recent past and continued decline "People say to me, Mr President, you've helped revive the banking industry, you've saved GM and Chrysler - what about the news business? I have to explain, hey, I'm just the President. I'm not a miracle worker here"
