Google announced today that Google Editions, the e-book service allowing users to download e-books for any device that can access the internet will be launched around June or July 2010.
Does this mean free books? Well, even though Google made the internet "Free" this is apparently a service that will allow users buy digital copies of books they find through Google's existing book search service and allow retailers to sell books on their own site and retain "the bulk of the revenue". Not many more details are released as of now, but this could be an interesting development for Google as they plan to make between 400,000 and 600,000 books available with pricing set by the publishers.
